Sector Performance

This section provides overview and performance information about Canadian and US sectors. Click the Canadian flag to display Canadian sectors (this is the default). Click the U.S. flag to display U.S. sectors. Clicking a flag in Sector Performance only changes the setting for this section. To globally change the flag on this page, click a flag in the top right corner of the page.

The Overview tab displays the following information for each sector.

• Avg Market Cap

Market capitalization ("market cap") is calculated by multiplying the number of a company's outstanding shares by the current market price per share. The "Avg. Market Cap" quoted in this section refers to the average mareket cap of the companies within this industry or sector.

• P/E Ratio

A ratio of a company's current share price compared to its per share earnings. The P/E ration is calculated as: market value per share divided by earnings per share (EPS).

• EPS Growth

Earnings Per Share: The portion of a company's profit that is allocated to each outstanding share of common stock. Serves as a indicator of a company's profitability and is calculated as the Net Income minus the Dividends on Preferred Stock divided by the Average Outstanding Shares.

• TRIV (5 yr)

Total Return Index Value. Similar to the stock price index value (SPIV), except that the TRIV is based on the aggregate, float-quoted market value of the index constituents (SPIV) plus their paid dividends/distributions. TRIV is calculated only at the end of the trading session for all S&P and TSX indices.

The Performance tab displays performance data for Today, 1 Month, 1 Year, and Total Return over 5 Years.

Red text indicates a loss over the specified period of time, green text indicates a gain. Grey text indicates no change.

You can sort all columns. Clicking on a column heading sorts the Sectors by descending and ascending values. Clicking a sector takes you to the Sector Detail page.
